XDefiant, formerly known as Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, is a free-to-play first-person arena shooter video game developed and published by Ubisoft. It was announced on July 18, 2021,[1], released on May 21, 2024 and shut down June 2, 2025.

Overview

XDefiant is an always-evolving first-person arena shooter with fast-paced movement similar to other arcade shooters such as Call of Duty.

The mode features 5 factions each with special abilities known as "Defiants", with a unique loadout system that allows for in-depth personalization for weapons for many playstyles.

Factions

Factions equipped with a Passive Trait, 2 Abilities (one of which can be equipped only) and 1 Ultra ability that must be charged up. At launch, there were 5 Defiants in total, each originating from a Ubisoft original and focusing on a key mechanic:

Weapons

Weapons are the primary way of dealing damage towards enemies with all weapons being ranged weapons that have to be shot from a distance to hit enemies with projectiles fired. There are 6 classes of weapons:

In addition, Primary Weapons can sport up to 5 attachments equipped and Secondary Weapons can only have 3 equipped.


Customization

XDefiant supports customization for characters, weapons, player cards, emojis and player animations. Each faction has 3 characters which the player can chose. Each character can also be customized for further personalization. Weapons have skins applied to their base receiver, with Mastery Mastery skins for each weapon being Bronze, Silver and Gold. Cosmetics have rarities as either Common Common, Rare Rare, Epic Epic and Legendary Legendary. Regular, unskinned items are given the Base Base rarity.
