XDefiant — xdefiant

XDefiant, formerly known as Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, is a free-to-play first-person arena shooter video game developed and published by Ubisoft. It was announced on July 18, 2021,^[1], released on May 21, 2024 and shut down June 2, 2025.

Overview

XDefiant is an always-evolving first-person arena shooter with fast-paced movement similar to other arcade shooters such as Call of Duty.

The mode features 5 factions each with special abilities known as "Defiants", with a unique loadout system that allows for in-depth personalization for weapons for many playstyles.

Factions

Factions equipped with a Passive Trait, 2 Abilities (one of which can be equipped only) and 1 Ultra ability that must be charged up. At launch, there were 5 Defiants in total, each originating from a Ubisoft original and focusing on a key mechanic:

Cleaners: Cleaners are great for dealing lots of damage, with their entire setup focused on dealing damage using fire.
Phantoms: Phantoms specialize in rushing opponents and defending objectives with their setup focused on shielding themselves and their allies.
Libertad: Libertad is a faction specializing in healing themselves and their team, keeping them alive for much longer.
Echelon: Echelon is a faction specializing in stealth and recon with their setup allowing them to sneak and reveal enemy locations.
DedSec: DedSec is a faction specializing in hijacking enemies and giving them a disadvantage in battle, with their setup hacking enemy tech and copying it.

Throughout the games life-cycle, 2 more Defiant factions are expected to be released:

GS-Kommando: The GS-Kommando are a collection of operatives who focus on defense and point clearing.
Outcasts: The Outcasts are a healer faction.
Wolves: Wolves are a bulkier faction, catering an increased amount of health.

Weapons

Weapons are the primary way of dealing damage towards enemies with all weapons being ranged weapons that have to be shot from a distance to hit enemies with projectiles fired. There are 6 classes of weapons:

Primary:
- Assault Rifles
- Submachine Guns
- Shotguns
- Marksman Rifles
- Sniper Rifles
Secondary:
- Pistols

In addition, Primary Weapons can sport up to 5 attachments equipped and Secondary Weapons can only have 3 equipped.

Customization

XDefiant supports customization for characters, weapons, player cards, emojis and player animations. Each faction has 3 characters which the player can chose. Each character can also be customized for further personalization. Weapons have skins applied to their base receiver, with Mastery skins for each weapon being Bronze, Silver and Gold. Cosmetics have rarities as either Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary. Regular, unskinned items are given the Base rarity.
